Electrify America, a prominent electric vehicle (EV) charging network, has recently announced an expansion of its partnership with ride-hailing platform Lyft. As part of this collaboration, Lyft drivers operating EVs across the United States will now have access to discounted charging rates at Electrify America’s extensive network of chargers, spanning coast-to-coast.
With a robust presence in 46 states and the District of Columbia, Electrify America operates one of the largest DC charging networks in the country. The company has made significant investments in EV infrastructure to alleviate concerns related to range anxiety and facilitate the widespread adoption of electric vehicles.
To accelerate the adoption of EVs, Electrify America has implemented various initiatives, including discounts for customers purchasing new battery electric vehicles (BEVs) from automakers such as Hyundai, Kia, Genesis, and VinFast. Additionally, the company offers occasional discounts during travel-heavy holidays and is actively integrating renewable grid technologies, such as large-scale solar farms.
Electrify America initially joined forces with Lyft in 2019, offering promotional charging benefits to drivers using EVs rented through Lyft’s Express Drive program. Now, Electrify America and Lyft have expanded their collaboration to provide charging discounts to a larger pool of drivers and increase the number of chargers available to them.
Under the enhanced partnership, Electrify America’s charging network will offer tiered discounts to Lyft EV drivers through its Electrify America Pass program. The level of discount will be determined based on the driver’s participation in the loyalty program, meaning the more they drive, the higher their DC charging discount will be. The discounts offered are as follows:
For all drivers:
- A discount of $0.11 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) at energy-based pricing sites.
- $0.03 per minute for 1-90 kilowatt (kW) charging at time-based pricing sites.
- $0.07 per minute for 1-350 kW charging.
For Gold and Platinum drivers:
- A discount of $0.14 per kWh at energy-based pricing sites.
- $0.04 per minute for 1-90 kW charging at time-based pricing sites.
- $0.09 per minute for 1-350 kW charging.
Electrify America confirms that these new discounts will be available nationwide to all active Lyft drivers using EVs that meet the charging network’s requirements. Erin Gray, Lyft’s product director, emphasized the significance of the expanded charging collaboration with Electrify America, stating:
“Upfront costs and access to affordable charging continue to be two of the biggest challenges drivers face when transitioning to electric vehicles. By becoming the first rideshare company to team up with Electrify America, we’re further attacking those barriers head-on. Drivers could potentially save hundreds of dollars on charging per year, in addition to the money they would already save on maintenance, by making the switch to EVs. It’s a win for drivers and a win for our environment.”
To benefit from the discounted DC charging rates, Lyft drivers must obtain an enrollment code from Lyft and then complete the Premium Offer enrollment on the Electrify America app using their existing Electrify America account. Both companies have assured that these new discounts will be in addition to the benefits already established in Lyft’s Express Drive program.
This strategic collaboration between Electrify America and Lyft not only encourages more Lyft drivers to transition to EVs but also underscores the commitment of both companies to support sustainable transportation solutions. By incentivizing affordable charging and reducing emissions, this initiative strives to make electric mobility more accessible and environmentally friendly.
