Barcelona-based EV charging equipment manufacturer, Wallbox, has announced that its Supernova DC fast charger will soon be available with the Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS) charging connector as an option.
This decision comes after several other prominent EV charging companies, including Ford and General Motors, recently announced their transition from the Combined Charging System (CCS1) to NACS. As the NACS coalition is set to include Rivian, it is not surprising that Wallbox and other charging equipment manufacturers are working towards incorporating the NACS option.
Wallbox, established in 2015, aims to introduce the NACS option to its 180-kilowatt (kW) Supernova DC fast chargers, which are expected to enter the North American market later in 2023. It is worth noting that the exact timeline for the integration of the NACS option into the CCS1-compatible Supernova has not been confirmed and may not happen immediately. Thus far, Wallbox has successfully sold the Supernova model in 33 countries worldwide, primarily in Europe.
Enric Asuncion, CEO and co-founder of Wallbox, expressed the company’s commitment to interoperability and creating a seamless charging experience for all electric vehicle (EV) drivers. As a vertically integrated company, Wallbox possesses the agility to swiftly incorporate technological advancements, supporting industry shifts that streamline EV charging and expedite the transition to sustainable transportation.
The North American version of the Wallbox Supernova will be manufactured at the company’s Arlington facility in Texas, which commenced operations in late 2022. This facility was designed to produce more than 250,000 charging points, predominantly simple AC charging units, and has the capability to scale up to one million units annually by 2030.

With a projected investment of $70 million, this project is anticipated to double the local workforce within the next twelve months. By 2025, it is expected to generate around 250 jobs in the Arlington area, and this number is predicted to rise to approximately 700 by 2030.
Wallbox also offers the Hypernova DC fast charging model, boasting a rating of up to 400 kW. While it is currently unknown when the higher-power Hypernova model will feature the NACS plug, there is speculation that it will receive this option in the future. This development further reinforces Wallbox’s commitment to providing versatile and compatible charging solutions for the expanding EV market.
