Basquevolt, a cutting-edge technology company specializing in solid-state batteries, announced significant progress in the development of their revolutionary battery cells. The company’s research and development center is on track to produce the first batch of 20 Ah cells suitable for electric vehicles by the end of this year.

Having conducted extensive testing since April of last year, Basquevolt has demonstrated the remarkable capabilities of its multi-layer cells. Their groundbreaking technology has achieved an impressive energy density of 1,000 Wh/l or 450 Wh/kg, while simultaneously reducing the overall cost of battery packs. Basquevolt envisions a potential cost reduction of 30 percent compared to existing lithium-ion batteries.

Despite being founded just last year, Basquevolt is already gearing up for mass production of solid-state cells at their future 1 GWh capacity plant. The company plans to commence production by the end of 2025. Strategically located in Vitoria-Gasteiz, the vibrant capital city of the Basque Country, and the province of Álava in northern Spain, the plant will serve as a hub for innovation and technological advancement.

“This unveiling signifies a major milestone for Basquevolt and solidifies our position as a trailblazer in the European solid-state industry,” exclaimed Francisco Carranza, CEO of Basquevolt. He further expressed his excitement, stating, “Our dedicated research and development team has triumphed over technical challenges to deliver a cost-competitive solid-state battery technology with an exceptional energy density. This breakthrough has the potential to revolutionize various sectors, including transportation and energy storage.”
