BYD, China’s biggest new energy vehicle (NEV) manufacturer, unveiled its latest Qin Plus EV model on Friday. Dubbed the “champion version” for 2023, the upgraded model comes in six different variants and is poised to rival traditional gasoline-powered vehicles.
According to BYD, the new version boasts significant improvements over its predecessor. Built on the latest 3.0 platform technology, the champion version features a powertrain that is 10% smaller and lighter than before, yet boasts an impressive efficiency rating of up to 89%.
In terms of performance, the model is capable of generating a maximum output of 150 kW and has a driving range of up to 610 km on a single charge, thanks to its blade-shaped batteries.
The Qin model is already one of the most popular sedans in China, according to the China Passenger Car Association. In fact, it outsold competitors Nissan’s Sylphy and Volkswagen’s Lavida last month with 30,540 units sold, marking a 24.6% YoY increase.
BYD’s Chairman Wang Chuanfu has set the ambitious target of selling at least 3 million vehicles this year, up from 1.86 million units in 2022. With the launch of the new Qin Plus EV champion version, it’s clear that BYD is committed to pushing the boundaries of NEV technology and capturing an even larger share of the Chinese automotive market.
