Kia, the South Korean automaker, has reported impressive growth in its global vehicle sales in February 2023, with a year-over-year increase of almost 15 percent to 254,027 units. The company’s total vehicle sales this year have also seen significant growth, with over 485,000 vehicles sold, representing a nearly 12 percent increase over the same period last year.
In addition to strong overall sales, Kia has also seen an expansion in sales of its E-GMP-based all-electric cars. The all-electric Kia EV6, in particular, has seen a significant increase in wholesale sales, with 8,824 units sold last month. This represents a 30 percent increase over the same period last year and is the second-highest monthly result ever recorded for the EV6.

Of the total number of EV6 units sold, 1,951 were sold in South Korea, while the remaining 6,873 were exported. In fact, recent months have seen Kia exporting more EV6 vehicles than ever before. So far in 2023, the company has sold more than 15,700 EV6 units, representing a 19 percent year-over-year increase.
Kia’s monthly sales data report also shows that the company sold 3,980 retail units of the Kia EV6 outside of South Korea, including 1,294 in the US. However, sales of the other electric car models, the Kia Niro EV and Kia Soul EV, have decreased year-over-year in retail sales outside of South Korea. The Niro EV saw a 33 percent decrease, while the Soul EV saw a 76 percent decrease.
Overall, Kia’s all-electric vehicle sales for last month totaled at least 9,444 units, representing a 20 percent year-over-year decrease. This figure includes South Korea’s EV6 sales and overseas retail sales data for the EV6, Niro EV, and Soul EV. Unfortunately, Kia does not report its PHEV numbers.
In 2022, Kia sold more than 130,000 all-electric cars, and the world eagerly awaits the release of its next E-GMP model, the Kia EV9. With the continued growth of its all-electric car sales and strong overall vehicle sales, Kia looks set to maintain its position as a leading automaker in the years to come.
