Tesla, the renowned electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, is known for its unconventional approach towards model year updates. Despite this, the company has recently introduced several changes to its Model S and Model X lineups.
Firstly, the EVs are now available in a vibrant Ultra Red paint option, which is the only red color available for both models. This new color option comes at an additional cost of $3,000.
Furthermore, Tesla has also introduced a new glass roof that offers better UV protection while allowing five times more light to enter the cabin. According to Tesla, this roof is also lighter and helps to lower the car’s center of gravity, thereby improving its handling.
In terms of performance, the Plaid variants of the Model S and Model X now come with improved brake pads that have a higher thermal capacity. Although there is no official statement on the specifics of this update, it is expected to enhance the braking performance of the Plaid models. This is particularly important as the Model S Plaid can go from 0 to 60 mph (0-96 km/h) in under two seconds and has a top speed of 200 mph (322 km/h).
Lastly, Tesla has also introduced a traditional round steering wheel as a no-cost option for those who prefer it over the previously introduced yoke-style steering wheel. This change could make the Model S and Model X more appealing to a wider range of customers.
The updated Model S is priced at $89,990 and goes up to $109,990 for the Model S Plaid. The Model X, on the other hand, is priced at $99,990 and $109,990 for the Plaid version.
