Volvo Cars Sales Jump 22% YoY in February, Driven by Recharge Models

Volvo Cars has announced record-breaking sales figures for the month of February. The automaker sold 51,286 cars, which marks a 22% increase compared to the same period last year. The sales growth can be attributed to the company’s Recharge lineup of fully electric and plug-in hybrid cars.

Out of all the Volvo cars sold globally in February, 40% were Recharge models, indicating a strong demand for eco-friendly vehicles. In fact, the sales of Volvo’s fully electric cars surged by 187% as compared to the same month in the previous year, comprising 19% of the total sales.

The US market saw a robust performance, with sales of 8,560 cars, representing a 38% increase from February 2022. The impressive sales figures were propelled by Volvo’s SUV range, as well as the rebound from lower production levels in the same period last year, caused by supply chain constraints. During February, 29% of all sales were Recharge cars.

China’s sales reached 13,066 cars, a remarkable 50% increase compared to February 2022. The strong growth can be partially attributed to the timing of the Lunar New Year, which had a dampening effect on sales last year. Recharge models constituted 9% of total sales in the region.

In Europe, Volvo sold 21,278 cars, up 9% from the same period in the previous year. Recharge models accounted for an impressive 64% of all sales in the region.

The top-selling model for Volvo in February was the XC60, with sales reaching 16,088 cars, followed by the XC40, with total sales of 15,398 cars. The XC90 came in third with 7,114 cars sold.
