E-mobility battery management software provider Qnovo has announced its collaboration with NXP Semiconductors, a company in secure connectivity solutions for embedded applications. The partnership will offer Qnovo’s new battery management system software, SpectralX©, in NXP’s e-mobility enablement solutions for electric vehicles in 2023.
SpectralX© is an intelligent battery management system that uses predictive analytics to improve battery performance, range, and safety in various types of EVs with any type of lithium-ion battery. The software is designed to work as an application layer in the operating system, residing on top of a manufacturer’s existing battery management system.

Qnovo is working with NXP on a reference design to ensure the seamless integration of Qnovo’s software with NXP’s battery management system and onboard charger hardware. The validated design will reduce development costs for electric vehicles and enable fast charging without compromising battery health. SpectralX© also adds predictive capabilities to NXP’s battery management system and supports swappable batteries.
The software’s small memory footprint leaves room for other features, while NXP’s secure boot prevents code tampering and enables secure code delivery, key to mass-market adoption.
Robert Li, NXP’s Vice President and General Manager, Product Line Driver and Energy Systems, said, “The growing demand for energy-efficient modes of transport is directly boosting the growth rate of the electric two- and three-wheeler market, and battery software optimization offered by Qnovo will strengthen our system solutions. Its edge software is particularly suited to emerging markets, where cloud access to manage batteries remotely is not guaranteed.”
The addition of Qnovo’s Battery Genome©, a data library of battery models for a broad range of cell chemistries and manufacturers, will automate the cell selection process and save time in battery qualification.
Nadim Maluf, CEO and Co-Founder of Qnovo, said, “Our collaboration with NXP will help resolve some of the major barriers to the market adoption of electric vehicles, especially in emerging markets. This collaboration builds on our work with the world’s top automotive OEMs, addressing range anxiety, safety and battery charging time concerns.”

This collaboration follows Qnovo’s announcement at CES 2023 that Vanderhall Motor Works will be using SpectralX© in its EVs. Vanderhall aims to deploy the solution to multiple all-electric vehicles the company will be launching globally in 2023.
The demand for electric vehicles is growing rapidly, and collaborations like this will go a long way in addressing the barriers to market adoption. The integration of Qnovo’s innovative battery management system software with NXP’s e-mobility enablement solutions will significantly enhance battery performance, range, and safety in electric vehicles, making them more appealing to consumers worldwide.
