Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard revealed on Tuesday that Tesla is about to make a significant announcement in Mexico, where the electric vehicle manufacturer has been exploring potential locations for its upcoming automotive production plant. The announcement comes as Tesla has been considering multiple sites for its next Gigafactory, including locations in Canada, South Korea, Indonesia, and Mexico.
Mexico has been a top contender for Tesla’s next production facility for several months now. In late 2022, reports suggested that Tesla was on the verge of announcing its intention to build a factory in Nuevo Leon, a state in northern Mexico. However, the announcement was delayed, leaving fans and investors speculating on the company’s next move.

With Ebrard’s recent comments, it appears that Tesla’s plans for Mexico are back on track. While it remains unclear whether the company will ultimately choose Nuevo Leon as the site of its next Gigafactory, Tesla’s interest in the region is a clear indication of the country’s potential as a hub for electric vehicle manufacturing. As Tesla continues to expand its global operations, the announcement of a new production plant in Mexico would be a significant milestone for the company and the industry as a whole.

Tesla has yet to confirm a specific location, but building a Gigafactory in Mexico would aid in the expansion of its North American operations. The announcement may be made early in March during Tesla’s Investor Day, where the company plans to reveal details about its Master Plan Part 3 and its plans for scaling to an “extreme size,” as well as information about SpaceX and the Boring Company.
