Mazda MX-30 e-Skyactiv R-EV Make Debut In Europe, Bring Back the Rotary

Making its debut at the 2023 Brussels Motor Show, Belgium, the unique Mazda MX-30 e-Skyactiv R-EV series plug-in hybrid joins the all-electric Mazda MX-30 e-Skyactiv in Mazda’s electric lineup.

Featuring its own “Modern Human” interpretation of our Kodo design philosophy, the Mazda MX-30 R-EV stands out from the crowd and meets the needs of the modern driver. Carefully developed proportions and attractive elements bring the car to life, such as the freestyle doors and driver-centered cockpit, for a one-of-a-kind crossover vehicle made in Japan.

Available to order, for arrival in the UK in summer 2023, the Mazda e-Skyactiv R-EV is offered in very specific classes such as the all-electric e-Skyactiv MX-30 with Prime-Lime, Exclusive-Line and Makoto variants. The MX-30 is the answer to European market demand, which is increasingly tightening emission regulations.

Unveiled at the Brussels Motor Show booth, this limited edition launch model is prominent inside and out, and is offered exclusively in the unique Jet Black color combination with Maroon Rouge side pillars and black roof.

With the R moniker standing for a return, only the 400 Edition R model will be coming to the UK to celebrate the return of the rotary engine. The Maroon Rouge color accent pays homage to the roof color of the Mazda R360, Mazda’s first passenger car.

Perfected by Mazda for more than 50 years, the Rotary engine is a gasoline-powered engine ideal for maintaining an electric charge in vehicles powered exclusively by electric motors.

The Mazda MX-30 R-EV is a plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV) like no other. Like a battery-electric vehicle (BEV), the wheels are driven exclusively by an electric motor. However, unlike other PHEVs, the petrol engine does not drive the wheels directly, but acts as a generator to charge the battery. This means you can enjoy uninterrupted electric driving wherever you go.

All versions of the Mazda MX-30 e-Skyactiv R-EV feature rotor badges on the front wings and e-Skyactiv R-EV badges on the tailgate. Unique wheels set the R-EV apart: Prime-Line with dark gray finish and Exclusive-Line, Makoto and Edition R with black diamond-cut finish.
