Buick Electra electric crossover not far from launch in China

Several images of the Buick Electra electric crossover, have leaked in China. The image was revealed from on the country’s Industry and Information Technology website. At the start of 2020, the same thing happened to the Volkswagen ID.4.

The Buick Electra is nearly 4.9 meters long, 1.9 meter wide and nearly 1.7 meter tall. The wheelbase stands at 2.9 meters – all those measurements are very similar to Nio ES6 within a few millimeters.

The battery is provided by the CATL and SIAC joint venture, unfortunately the capacity is not given at this moment. Top speed of the Buick Electra is limited to 180 km/h (112 mph).

According to documents on the website, the Buick Electra E5 will have a single-motor powertrain with an output of 241 hp. No information on estimated range, although analysts put it at 250-300 miles.

The Buick Electra E5 will be intended for the growing Chinese market and is made by SAIC-GM. An Electra E5 prototype has also been spotted in Michigan, signaling it will be coming soon to the North American market.

Buick is targeting the first EV for the North American market to arrive in 2024. Starting with an electric crossover, because that’s what most of the market wants right now.

Buick is the best-selling GM brand in China with several electric vehicle portfolios. In the US market, Buick is struggling in North America and a very old portfolio.

GM will revitalize the Buick brand in the US and Canada with the launch of electric vehicles that are attractive and leave a vintage impression. Buick aims to become a fully electric brand by 2030.
