The body of the Tesla Cybertruck is confirmed to be made of steel manufactured by Steel Dynamics Inc. (SDI), such as SpaceX’s Starship. Confirmation of this comes from a description in the Petersen Automotive Museum exhibition that is showing all aspects of Tesla technology, The Boring Company, and Hyperloop.
On November 2, the exhibition “Inside Tesla: Supercharging the Electric Revolution,” dedicated to all aspects of the company and more, kicks off at the Petersen Automotive Museum.
In the exhibition there are several things that become highlights, one of which is a description of what material the Cybertruck is made of.

The Cybertruck’s materials have previously caused controversy. Back in late 2020, San Patricio County Judge David Krebs revealed that the Steel Dynamics plant will supply steel for the production of the Cybertruck. Tesla is said to be using steel from Steel Dynamics and repairing it with its own technology through third-party companies.
“Now some of these other companies who work with SDI will actually be taking SDI’s product and refining it a little bit better we’re hearing that one of the companies that were pretty close to probably getting close is a company that’s going to be taking STI steel is redoing it and that steel will actually be going into the Tesla cars that they’re moving in from California to manufacture here,” said David Krebs.
At that time, this statement was not confirmed by Tesla or proven directly. Steel Dynamics itself, when asked by Bloomberg journalists, Dana Hull, answered that it did not supply directly to Tesla.
In fact, this is true, because, as can be seen in the description in the Petersen Automobile Museum exhibit. Tesla receives steel from Steel Dynamics and refines it with its own technology, through other companies.
Descriptions in the Petersen Automotive Museum exhibit indicate that the Cybertruck’s body, as well as the SpaceX Starship, are made of steel produced by Steel Dynamics.
“We worked with Petersen for over two years on every detail of this exhibit. It started off with a small idea and grew to something amazing,” said Franz von Holzhausen, Senior Design Executive at Tesla, during the opening ceremony.
