Audi will cut the production volume of the all-electric e-tron GT while on the other hand the manufacturer will cut the production volume of its flagship combustion engine A8 at Neckarsulm
To achieve this by shifting personnel to the production of electric vehicles. According to information from local German news outlet Heilbronner Stimme, employees affected by the production cuts for the A8 will be moved to produce the e-tron GT in Böllinger Höfe.
“Program adjustments for the Audi A8 will be carried out in conjunction with an increase in the production volume of the Audi e-tron GT,” said plant manager Fred Schulze.
According to a Heilbronner Stimme report, the company did not provide a unit number regarding the production cut for the A8. Electric car production will be increased from January. So far, Audi has produced more than 15,000 units of the e-tron GT.
Schulze went on to state that with increased production of the e-tron GT “and combined with intensive preparation for future upgrades,” they have enough jobs for employees at the Neckarsulm plant.
Which models are still open for electric cars. As “Stimme” continues, behind the scenes both factory managers and job boards are lobbying for an all-electric successor to the A8 to also be built at Neckarsulm from the middle of this decade.
The distribution of models to individual plants is usually determined in the VW Group with the so-called planning round in November of the year. However, planning for the current round of 71 has apparently been delayed until early 2023.
