Mercedes-Benz secures lithium supply from Rock Tech Lithium

Mercedes-Benz secures a supply of high-quality lithium used in battery production with Rock Tech Lithium Inc.

Starting in 2026, Mercedes-Benz will supply its battery partners with raw materials to accelerate the production of fully electric vehicles.

Rock Tech Lithium then supplies its lithium hydroxide batteries to battery partner Mercedes-Benz from converters based in Guben, Brandenburg, Germany.

“The large quantities of lithium sourced directly from Rock Tech will help Mercedes-Benz to advance the localization of advanced battery cell production in Europe,” said Markus Schäfer, Member of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG, Chief Technology Officer in a statement. Wires.

Schäfer added that 10,000 tonnes of lithium per year will play a key role in securing lithium supplies for our battery production in Europe, to help achieve Mercedes-Benz’s ambitious electrification goals.

“Rock Tech’s lithium hydroxide offers Mercedes-Benz the opportunity to support two strategic goals: local and reliable sourcing and production under high sustainability standards,” said Markus Bruegmann, Chief Executive Officer of Rock Tech Lithium.

The partnership between the two companies was announced during the Germany-Canada Summit in Toronto in August this year.

At the time, the two companies said they would explore a strategic partnership, having a volume of 1.5 billion euros (Rp) and would include enough lithium hydroxide for 150,000 cars per year, the companies said.

The supply agreement stipulates that the two companies will work together on a roadmap to achieve CO2-neutral lithium hydroxide production by the end of 2030.
