Chevrolet has introduced the Chevrolet Equinox EV electric car as one of its cheapest electric car options (8/9). The Chevrolet Equinox has been officially released to complement the choice of Chevrolet’s newest electric car in the United States after the Silverado EV, the Blazer EV.

Chevrolet positions the Equinox EV as an entry-level electric SUV to reach American families looking to transition to electric cars.

“We are at a turning point where electric cars will become the most common choice for the next generation of consumers and the Equinox EV will be at our forefront,” said Mary Barra, Chief Executive Officer of General Motors.

“With the flexibility of GM’s Ultium platform, we are bringing more electric vehicles to market at almost every price level and for any need,” added Barra.

Chevrolet says the Equinox EV will start at around $30,000. This price makes the Equinox EV priced cheaper than the Hyundai IONIQ 5 which is sold in America starting at 39,950 US dollars.

Looking at the design, the Chevrolet Equinox EV looks like a Blazer EV which has shrunk a little, especially when viewed from the side or front.

The interior is also heavily inspired by the Blazer EV such as round AC vents on the left and right sides of the dashboard and the head unit screen that blends with the instruments.

Although positioned lower than the Blazer EV, the Equinox EV gets features that are no less sophisticated than its older brother.

For example, the Equinox EV already has the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) Chevy Safety Assist, which consists of Automatic Emergency Braking, Following Distance Indicator, Forward Collision Alert, Front Pedestrian Braking, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, and IntelliBeam.

In addition, several variants of the Equinox EV are equipped with Super Cruise semi-autonomous steering features such as the Blazer EV.

Regarding performance, Chevrolet says the Equinox EV is available with a standard front-wheel-drive electric motor with 210 hp and 328 Nm of torque.

In addition to front-wheel drive, the Equinox EV also comes with all-wheel drive with 290 hp and 469 Nm of torque.
