Rivian has had a year of ups and downs in the electric vehicle business. After the IPO late last year, the company faced production cuts, supply chain problems and staff cuts. Now to increase its production, the company is removing the option for the Explorer package of electric vehicles they offer.

The removal of the Explorer package comes to streamline its business model after laying off six percent of its workforce earlier this year. Downsizing is done so that more deliveries can be made immediately.

The uninstallation of the Explorer package applies to both R1T and R1S according to the folks at RivianOwnersForum. Those affected have 3 different options to choose from either reconfiguring to the more expensive and more complete Adventure package, doing nothing, or they can cancel their order altogether.

Buyers who choose to do nothing, they will remain in the system but their vehicle will be considered “unconfigured” so that buyer will not have a delivery date.

Buyers who cancel the order will get a full refund. Buyers requesting a full refund will be prioritized if they return to make a new order in the future.

Those who have signed a binding agreement, will get a full refund because the agreement was made regarding vehicles that Rivian no longer makes.
