Indian brand Mahindra is getting serious about the electric era. The company recently announced five new electric SUV concept cars featuring future production models for the XUV and BE sub-brands.
The concept electric car uses Mahindra’s new EV skateboard platform called Inglo which uses components from VW Group’s MEB architecture.
Mahindra introduces a new design language that is āheartcoreā. The five new electric SUV concept cars are divided into two brands namely BE (05, 07, and 09) and XUV (E08 and E09).
Despite some similarities, the tamoil BE branded SUV is more futuristic than the XUV which may be closer to a production car than a concept car. The five electric concept SUVs come in digital renderings.
The five electric vehicles using Inglo’s modular architecture will use components from the VW Group’s previously tested MEB platform. The shared components will be the “electric drivetrain, battery system and battery cells”.
The Inglo architecture will work well with a 60-80 kWh battery pack, similar to that used by the VW Group electric SUV. Mahindra promises fast charging capability of 175 kW which makes the battery reach 80 percent charge in less than 30 minutes.
The platform comes in rear-wheel drive form with a single electric motor producing 228 hp (170 kW / 231 PS). Meanwhile for all-wheel drive with dual electric motors that produce a combined power of 335 hp (250 kW / 340 PS). The Mahindra electric vehicle is claimed to be able to accelerate from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in less than 6 seconds.
Interestingly, the figures mentioned above are higher than the electric vehicle offerings of the MEB-based Volkswagen Group such as Audi, VW, and Skoda.
Other highlighted features are the semi-active suspension, wire brake technology, Level 2+ autonomy and the 5-star safety rating expected in the Global NCAP test.
Mahindra targets that a total of 1 million units will be produced based on the five concept cars that have just been introduced. Production versions of the XUV E08/E09 and BE 05/07 will launch between 2024 and 2026.
