The entire auto industry is slowly turning to electric power, which means government vehicles should also start making changes in the near future. Some countries are already using EVs (electric vehicles) as a means of transportation such as taxis, delivery vehicles and in some cities, even used as police cars.
The recently launched Blazer EV will be available in high-performance 1LT, 2LT, RS, and SS trims, and now Chevy has announced that a Police Pursuit Vehicle (PPV) will also be offered.
The Blazer EV is based on GM’s new Ultium Platform, and the PPV model is based on the high-performance 557 horsepower SS trim, all of which guarantee short catch-up times.
According to Chevrolet, the Blazer EV PPV will have the largest Ultium battery in its lineup and will be available in rear-wheel drive or with a two-motor all-wheel drive system.
The Blazer EV PPV should also have a range of nearly 300 miles, and will be able to charge quickly from a 190 kW DC public fast charger.
To help the Blazer EV police car perform at its best, it is aided by a set of Brembo brakes and a police-only interior designed for law enforcement.
“The possibilities for the Blazer EV’s commercial and law enforcement applications are virtually endless,” said Ed Peper, vice president of GM Fleet.
“Along with zero-emission exhaust performance, this reduces the number and frequency of certain maintenance requirements typically associated with fleet vehicles.” Fleet applications for the Blazer EV also include the medical, pharmaceutical and rental industries, but reportedly only the SS Blazer has police lights.
