Canada has just announced a funding move to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles. Canada will fund 6,000 EV chargers with a total investment of CAD 45M (nearly €34Mn).
The funding package allows local governments and companies such as Hydro Québec or Shell Canada to benefit from the funding.
Hydro Québec will receive $4.6 million to install up to 840 electric vehicle chargers in Quebec. The company targets to complete the project on EV power installation by March 2024. Hydro Québec said it will select a public location upon request. Shell Canada will receive $3.95 million to install 79 EV chargers in 37 retail locations.
Meanwhile, Prince Edward Island’s Ministry of Environment, installed up to 250 EV chargers on the island for $2 million. The BC Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure received $1.7 million to install 128 EV chargers at Burnaby and throughout British Columbia.
Other projects include Peak Power Inc., Eco-West Canada, and the Manitoba Motorcycle Dealers Association. The latter gets $2Mn to install up to 300 EV chargers in Manitoba, including for light commercial EVs.
