Electrification does not only target passenger vehicles. Various types of commercial vehicles are now also transforming using electric powertrains.
Tarmac, a British building materials company, has just placed an order for an electric mixer truck from Renault Trucks.
The plan is that the electric mixer truck ordered by Tarmac will be delivered this fall. The electric mixer truck uses the 26-ton Renault Trucks E-Tech D Wide as its base.
The truck will begin work at the Washwood Heath Tarmac site in Birmingham, supplying critical construction materials to customers throughout the West Midlands. The company says the truck will be able to charge quickly in 1.5 – 2 hours with its 265kWh battery.
The electric truck will come with enhanced safety features. The battery provides a lower center of gravity thereby increasing stability while driving.
Renault Trucks and Total Vehicle Solutions (TVS) aim to develop the next generation of mixers, with ambitions for widespread use across their urban operations.
Andrew Scott, head of electric mobility at Renault Trucks, said: “We are delighted to partner with TVS Group to bring the first electric concrete mixer to the Tarmac fleet. Work began on this vehicle as part of their Supplier Innovation Challenge last year, and it is exciting that this vehicle will soon enter service bringing a range of concrete products to Tarmac customers.”
