Polestar O2 was launched as an electric roadster concept in March this year and has since captured public attention, especially with its drone features.
The automaker is considering the concept car as a production model, said company CEO Thomas Ingenlath. The CEO of Polestar has said that he wants to turn the O2 into a production car that is offered to the public.
In an interview with TopGear, Thomas Ingenlath said that realizing the O2 concept is not an easy thing considering the complexity aspect it has.
“You have to respect the complexity. We have to see where the O2 is going. When you’ve painted a painting, it’s always good to let it rest, and look at it after a couple of months and still see if it’s a good painting,” said Thomas Ingenlath
The O2 Concept is a two-door convertible version of the four-door Precept concept. The Polestar Precept concept has already evolved into the Polestar 5 electric grand tourer slated for a global launch in 2024.
The Polestar 5 just made its debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed ââand is backed by an architecture that features bonded aluminum.
In this case, O2 could also come based on the same platform, but there will be slight modifications. Mechanically, the O2 and Polestar 5 will remain the same.
If the Polestar O2 is produced, it will share some body panels and cabin components with the Polestar 5. It could come with a customized rear deck and a shorter wheelbase as well.
When the O2 was first shown last March, Polestar was tight-lipped about its technical specifications. However, the EV can get the same dual-motor electric powertrain as the Polestar 5.
This all-electric powertrain is capable of producing a combined power of 872 hp and 900 Nm of torque. An electric powertrain of those specs looks great on a grand tourer, the Polestar O2 roadster would be just right to carry this too.
