General Motors (GM) is recalling 67,380 electric vehicles from its Cadillac and Chevrolet brands after identifying a software defect that can cause a temporary loss of braking under certain driving conditions.
The recall covers selected all-wheel-drive (AWD) versions of the Cadillac Lyriq, Celestiq and Vistiq, as well as the Chevrolet Blazer EV. GM identified an issue in the brake system control module (BSCM), which can incorrectly calculate wheel slip when a vehicle encounters a specific combination of steering and road conditions.
Software Defect and Investigation
According to GM, the problem can occur when a driver lightly applies the brakes while making a sharp turn and the vehicle simultaneously travels over a bump. Under these circumstances, the software may misinterpret wheel movement, potentially resulting in a temporary reduction or loss of braking.

The investigation followed an incident involving a 2024 Cadillac Lyriq that struck a garage at low speed. On April 10, 2026, a GM technical expert submitted a report to the company’s Speak Up for Safety programme for assessment.
GM subsequently conducted internal testing and reproduced the issue. The company said the defect was similar to one addressed in a separate recall in 2024.
Documents submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) identify 24 field complaints associated with the problem. Twenty involved minor accidents, while two included reports of minor injuries. The complaints were recorded between February 24, 2024, and June 11, 2026.
Vehicles Covered by the Recall
In a letter to the NHTSA dated October 29, 2026, GM reported that the recall affects 67,380 vehicles across four model lines:
- 2023–2027 Cadillac Lyriq
- 2025–2026 Cadillac Celestiq
- 2026–2027 Cadillac Vistiq
- 2024–2027 Chevrolet Blazer EV
The defect is limited to certain all-wheel-drive configurations rather than every vehicle within these model ranges.

Software Update and Owner Notifications
GM has introduced software corrections in production over recent months. For vehicles covered by the recall, the company will update the BSCM software either through an over-the-air (OTA) update or at an authorised dealership. The repair will be provided free of charge.
