BYD recorded its highest monthly new energy vehicle (NEV) sales of the year in October, supported by a record performance in battery electric passenger vehicles as deliveries of fully electric models exceeded 300,000 for the first time.
The Chinese automaker sold 490,168 NEVs during the month, up 10.97% year-on-year and 5.74% from September, according to figures released on Sunday. October marked the company’s sixth consecutive month of year-on-year sales growth and its eighth consecutive month of higher deliveries compared with the preceding month.
However, annual growth moderated to 10.97% from 16.98% in September, extending a slowdown in the growth rate for a third consecutive month.
October’s total was BYD’s highest since December 2024 and its fourth-highest monthly NEV sales figure on record, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
For the first 10 months of the year, BYD sold 3,621,744 NEVs, down 2.16% year-on-year. The contraction narrowed from the 3.94% decline recorded during the January-September period.
Battery Electric Passenger Vehicles Drive Growth
Battery electric vehicles (BEVs) were the main contributor to BYD’s October sales increase. The company sold 305,743 battery electric passenger vehicles, representing a 37.38% year-on-year increase and an 11.94% rise from September.
The figure established a new monthly record for the third consecutive month. BEVs accounted for 63.28% of BYD’s passenger vehicle sales in October, compared with 59.81% in September and 50.95% in October 2025.
The growing share of fully electric models highlights a continued shift in BYD’s passenger vehicle sales mix toward battery-powered vehicles.
In contrast, plug-in hybrid passenger vehicle sales declined. BYD sold 177,382 units in October, down 17.23% year-on-year and 3.37% month-on-month. This represented the segment’s second consecutive annual decline, following a 2.36% drop in September.
Between January and October, battery electric passenger vehicle sales reached 1,935,700 units, up 5.86% year-on-year. Plug-in hybrid passenger vehicle sales fell 11.02% to 1,625,969 units over the same period.
Passenger and Commercial Vehicle Sales
BYD sold 483,125 passenger NEVs in October, an increase of 10.59% compared with the same month last year and 5.78% from September.
Commercial NEVs accounted for the remaining 7,043 units, up 45.22% year-on-year. Cumulative commercial vehicle sales reached 60,075 units in the first 10 months, representing growth of 30.22%.
NEV Exports More Than Double
International deliveries continued to expand rapidly. BYD exported 170,194 NEVs in October, up 102.84% year-on-year, although the figure was 5.81% lower than in September.
From January through October, the company’s NEV exports totalled 1,513,154 vehicles, an increase of 93.75% compared with the same period last year.
The export performance contrasted with continued weakness in the domestic market. BYD sold 319,974 vehicles in China in October, down 10.57% year-on-year but up 13.12% month-on-month.
Domestic sales totalled 2,108,590 vehicles during the first 10 months of the year, representing a 27.81% decline from the corresponding period in 2025.
October’s results show a growing contribution from fully electric passenger vehicles and overseas markets to BYD’s overall performance. However, declining plug-in hybrid and domestic sales continued to weigh on its year-to-date figures.
