Suzuki has announced Japanese pricing for the e Sky, its first fully electric kei car, with prices starting at 2.12 million yen (approximately €12,000). Sales are scheduled to begin on 16 November, positioning the model below comparable offerings from BYD and Honda.
The e Sky will be available in three trim levels: A, G and X. The entry-level A starts at 2.12 million yen, while the G and X are priced at 2.39 million yen (approximately €13,500) and 2.79 million yen (approximately €15,750), respectively. Suzuki will build the A trim to order, with the G and X offered as regular production configurations.
Electric Platform and Powertrain
The e Sky is built on Suzuki’s dedicated Heartect-e electric vehicle platform. The company has also developed its own eAxle, integrating the electric motor, inverter and reduction gears into a single unit weighing approximately 47 kg.
The AC synchronous motor, internally designated BB8A, produces 47 kW of power and 133 Nm of torque.
Energy is supplied by a 26 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack sourced from BYD. Rather than using a larger battery, Suzuki has focused on energy efficiency, with claimed consumption of 97 Wh/km.
Suzuki says the e Sky can travel up to 310 km on a single charge. That figure is 10 km below the claimed 320 km WLTC range of BYD’s Racco equipped with its optional 35.84 kWh LFP battery.
Charging and Power Supply Functions
The 26 kWh battery supports AC charging at up to 6 kW and DC charging at up to 50 kW. However, DC charging is available only on the G and X trims, which feature a CHAdeMO charging port.
The port also supports vehicle-to-load (V2L) and vehicle-to-home (V2H) functions, allowing the vehicle to supply power to external equipment or compatible home systems.
According to Suzuki, charging from the low-battery warning level to 100% state of charge takes approximately four and a half hours using a 6 kW AC charger. With a 50 kW DC charger, the battery can be charged from the same starting level to 80% in around 25 minutes.
Equipment and Safety Features
Depending on the trim, the e Sky will be available with LED headlamps and tail lamps, a 4.2-inch driver information display and a 10.1-inch HD infotainment touchscreen. Other equipment includes two USB Type-C ports, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel and a six-speaker audio system.
Safety and driver-assistance systems include a 360-degree camera, six airbags, Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Departure Prevention, Vehicle Sway Warning, Driver Drowsiness Warning and Adaptive Cruise Control.
Equipment availability varies by configuration.
Potential European Launch
Suzuki could expand the e Sky beyond Japan, with a report from Nikkei indicating that a European launch could take place as early as 2027. The UK and Italy are being considered as potential primary export markets.
The model would enter a developing European market for compact electric vehicles inspired by Japan’s kei-car segment. According to a separate Nikkei report, BYD is also considering an entry into this category with a vehicle featuring a space-saving battery layout similar to that of the Racco.
Honda has already introduced an adapted version of its electric kei car, the N-One e, in the UK under the Super-N name. Suzuki’s potential European launch would add another Japanese manufacturer to the segment.
