Chinese state-owned automaker FAW has officially introduced its luxury Hongqi brand to Thailand, launching the all-electric Hongqi E-HS9 as its first model in the market.
FAW has appointed Metro Group as the brand’s official distributor and strategic partner in Thailand, marking the latest step in the company’s international expansion.
The Hongqi E-HS9 is available in Thailand in a single six-seat configuration with an introductory price of 2.99 million baht (approximately €79,300) for the first 400 vehicles. The company has not yet announced the standard retail price that will apply after the initial launch offer.
Launch Package and Dealer Expansion
Customers purchasing one of the first 400 units will receive a package including one year of comprehensive insurance, a home wall charger, 24-hour roadside assistance for up to five years, a five-year or 150,000-kilometre vehicle warranty, and an eight-year or 160,000-kilometre battery warranty.
Metro Group has opened two Hongqi showrooms in Bangkok and plans to expand the dealer network to ten locations within the next three years.
The expansion will include five dealerships in Bangkok and one outlet each in Thailand’s northern, northeastern, central, eastern and southern regions.
Performance and Market Plans
The Hongqi E-HS9 measures 5.21 metres in length, 2.01 metres in width and 1.71 metres in height, with a wheelbase of 3.11 metres.
While the model is produced in four-, six- and seven-seat configurations globally, only the six-seat version is being offered in Thailand. The SUV provides 255 litres of luggage capacity, expandable to 1,747 litres with the second- and third-row seats folded.
The Thai-market model is powered by dual permanent magnet synchronous electric motors producing a combined output of 362kW and 606Nm of torque, delivering all-wheel drive performance.
The electric SUV accelerates from 0 to 100km/h in 5.5 seconds and has a top speed of 200km/h.
Energy is supplied by a 120kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery, providing a WLTC driving range of 548 kilometres. The battery supports DC fast charging at up to 140kW, enabling a 10% to 80% recharge in approximately 48 minutes.
According to local media reports, Metro Group aims to sell 2,000 Hongqi vehicles in Thailand during 2027, with annual sales targeted to increase to 4,000 units by 2029.
FAW also plans to showcase the Hongqi Golden Sunflower luxury series at the Thailand International Motor Expo later this year as it prepares to broaden its product lineup in the country.
