Swiss technology company Suncar has introduced a new megawatt charging interface designed for installation on electric commercial vehicles, aiming to simplify adoption of the Megawatt Charging System (MCS) standard among manufacturers.
The product, named Megaflow1500, is intended to address a perceived gap in the development of MCS, a global standard currently under development for ultra-fast charging of heavy-duty vehicles and machinery. While industry efforts have largely focused on charging infrastructure, Suncar said vehicle-side integration remains less developed.
“So far, discussions often focus on charging infrastructure outside the vehicle. In this area, the market already offers various solutions,” the company said.
The Megaflow1500 builds on Suncar’s experience with Combined Charging System (CCS) interfaces and is designed as a modular DC fast-charging solution. It operates at a system voltage of 1,000 volts and supports currents of up to 1,500 amperes, aligning with the high-power requirements expected under the MCS framework.
According to Suncar, the system integrates multiple components into a single unit, including the charging inlet, high-voltage switching and safety systems, as well as measurement, monitoring and communication functions for interaction with the vehicle control unit. The interface can also be configured with passive or active cooling to support demanding operating conditions in commercial and off-highway applications.
An optional charging controller enables compliance with MCS communication standards and facilitates coordination between the vehicle and charging infrastructure, the company added.
Stefan Schneider, managing director of Suncar AG, said the company is seeking to shift attention toward the vehicle side of the charging ecosystem.
“Megawatt charging discussions often focus on charging parks and infrastructure. In practice, however, the vehicle side determines whether the technology can actually be used,” Schneider said. He added that the new solution provides manufacturers with a product “that significantly simplifies the entry into MCS charging technology and supports different vehicle concepts.”
Suncar said the Megaflow1500 is suitable for integration into development, pilot and series-production vehicles, as the industry continues to advance toward standardised megawatt charging solutions.
