Volkswagen has delivered its two-millionth battery-electric vehicle, the company said, marking a milestone in its rollout of fully electric models under the ID brand.
The milestone vehicle was an ID.3 produced at Volkswagen’s Zwickau plant and handed over at the Gläserne Manufaktur delivery center in Dresden. Production of the ID.3 at the Dresden facility ended in December, making the anniversary unit among the final vehicles assembled there.

Volkswagen entered the battery-electric market in 2013 with the e-Up!, followed by the e-Golf. Its current electric lineup ranges from the compact ID.3 to the larger ID.7, which is positioned as an electric alternative to the Passat. The company plans to expand its offerings in the smaller vehicle segment with models such as the ID. Polo and ID. Cross.
The ID.3, introduced in 2019 as the first model built on Volkswagen’s Modular Electric Drive Matrix (MEB) platform, accounts for about 628,000 deliveries. However, the ID.4 sport utility vehicle and its coupe-style variant, the ID.5, lead in overall volume with roughly 901,000 combined deliveries since their launch in 2021.

“The ID.4 is a key growth driver for the brand and has played a major part in expanding Volkswagen’s presence on the global BEV markets,” the company said, adding that key markets include China, the United States and Europe.
Volkswagen also cited the ID.7, introduced in 2023 in sedan and estate forms, as part of its current electric portfolio. “The ID.7 represents the technological progress of the ID. family and demonstrates how Volkswagen is introducing electromobility to a new segment with long range and a high level of efficiency and comfort,” the company said.

Looking ahead, Volkswagen plans to introduce four new electric city cars across its brands by 2026, including the ID. Polo and ID. Cross under the Volkswagen brand. The initiative targets the high-volume small-car segment.
“These new models make electromobility accessible to even more customers,” said Martin Sander, the company’s board member for sales. “Our aim is to introduce attractive, affordable electric vehicles for everyday use into the high-volume small car segment and, in so doing, take the next growth steps in our transformation.”
