Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD has become the official automotive partner of Manchester City, in a sponsorship agreement aimed at strengthening the company’s brand recognition across Europe.
The deal follows BYD’s previous role as an automotive partner of the UEFA Euro 2024 tournament in Germany and adds to its growing involvement in European football, including sponsorship of Inter Milan. Manchester City, a multiple-time English champion and recent UEFA Champions League winner, has a global fan base that companies often target for international marketing campaigns.
Under the agreement, BYD branding will appear on the sleeves of the men’s and women’s teams’ training kits—immediately for the men’s squad and from next season for the women’s side. The company will also gain visibility throughout the Etihad Stadium, including logos displayed on the dugout headrests.
Beyond branding, BYD will provide vehicles from both its core marque and its premium Denza line for club-related activities. One of the company’s cars will escort the men’s first-team bus into the stadium before Premier League and domestic cup matches. The partnership also includes installation of charging points and energy storage systems at the City Football Academy, the club’s training complex.
BYD Vice President Stella Li said the collaboration reflects shared ambitions in innovation and sustainability. “Manchester City stands for excellence, innovation and the courage to push beyond limits — values that are deeply rooted in BYD’s DNA,” she said, adding that the partnership aims to inspire audiences through technology and clean mobility.
City Football Group Chief Executive Ferran Soriano described BYD as a global technology leader aligned with the club’s objectives. “BYD are global leaders within their field… Leaders with purpose, to make the world a better place,” he said.
