Finnish fast-charging specialist Kempower has entered into a distribution and service partnership with fellow Finnish company Plugit, aiming to accelerate the rollout of electric vehicle charging infrastructure for both passenger cars and heavy-duty trucks across the Nordic region.
Under the agreement signed this month, Plugit will procure and deploy turnkey charging solutions from Kempower for its own charging parks as well as for third-party customers. The partnership covers sales, deployment and service of Kempower’s fast-charging technologies in multiple markets.
The first phase of the collaboration has already resulted in 15 charging sites being commissioned in Finland. A key milestone was the installation of Finland’s first publicly accessible megawatt charging system (MCS) near the port of Hamina-Kotka, providing ultra-high-power charging for electric trucks. The site was inaugurated in December.
In a second phase, the partners plan to open an additional 15 to 20 sites across Finland, Sweden and France. In France, Kempower’s fast-charging solutions will also be offered through Plugit partner Bump, expanding the reach of the collaboration beyond the Nordics.
“The partnership will see a number of both passenger car and truck charging locations launched over the coming years,” the companies said, adding that they also plan to cooperate on research and development projects. These initiatives will focus on intelligent booking systems, energy management, truck guidance solutions and pilot projects for new charging hardware.
“We’re excited to already be building momentum with our work alongside Kempower, with 15 successful projects already delivered,” said René Graichen, chief operating officer at Plugit. “Combining Kempower’s technology and Plugit’s expertise in leading EV charging projects helps us to provide both quality service and solutions – essential foundations for a successful charging business and enabling the electrification of both passenger vehicles and trucks.”
Erik Kanerva, sales director for Northern Europe at Kempower, said the partnership would support large-scale infrastructure deployment. “Partnering with Plugit helps us to deliver reliable and robust fast charging sites at scale across the Nordics – something that is vital if we are to accelerate the transition and support the infrastructure rollout. We are proud that together we brought the first public MCS truck charging site to Finland,” he said.
Kempower has been taking orders for its megawatt charging system for nearly two years. The system combines up to two 600-kilowatt power units to deliver a total output of 1.2 megawatts via Kempower Mega Satellite chargers, supporting either a single MCS connector or up to two high-power CCS connectors. While the technology has already been deployed at depot sites in Norway, Denmark and Sweden, the Hamina-Kotka installation marks its first public use in Finland.
