Nio’s compact electric vehicle brand Firefly has begun delivering vehicles in Austria, marking another step in its European expansion as the Chinese automaker seeks to grow its presence outside its domestic market.
Firefly confirmed the latest market entry in a post on Chinese social media platform Weibo, without disclosing delivery volumes or model details. The move follows earlier launches in Norway and the Netherlands in August, as well as more recent market entries in Belgium, Denmark and Greece.

The brand was officially unveiled at Nio Day in December 2024, with the first Firefly model positioned to compete with small premium vehicles such as those from Mini and Smart. Firefly began deliveries in China on April 29 and reached 10,000 cumulative deliveries by late July. On November 7, the company said it had shipped a large batch of vehicles to Europe and confirmed plans to expand into additional overseas markets.
In an interview with Reuters on November 18, Firefly president Daniel Jin said the brand plans to enter the UK and Thailand in 2026, targeting markets not subject to punitive tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles. “We are accelerating our international rollout while carefully selecting markets that align with our long-term strategy,” Jin said at the time.

Firefly delivered 6,088 vehicles in November, up 2.98 percent from the previous month, according to data compiled by CnEVPost. Including sales from Nio’s main brand and its Onvo sub-brand, the group delivered a total of 36,275 vehicles during the month, its second-highest monthly total on record.
The company also announced the rollout of its Aster 1.3.0 software update in China, introducing enhancements to driver assistance, smart cockpit functions, and voice interaction systems, as it continues to position Firefly as a technology-focused offering in the global compact EV segment.
