Chinese automaker BYD Automotive has applied to join the Global Intelligent Internet of Things Alliance (GIIC) and is seeking a council seat, according to a report by IT-home. The application was submitted on Dec. 17, 2025, the report said.
GIIC, founded in June 2024, is an international industry organisation focused on integrating Internet of Things (IoT) technologies with the HarmonyOS ecosystem. The alliance brings together domestic and international companies, research bodies and institutions to promote standardisation and large-scale industrial adoption of HarmonyOS-based IoT solutions.

The alliance currently includes more than 350 enterprises and organisations, among them Huawei, Haier, China Mobile and the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology. GIIC’s stated goal is to build a standardised digital foundation for IoT applications and reduce fragmentation caused by incompatible interfaces and data protocols.
BYD said its participation is intended to combine its experience in intelligent vehicle technologies with GIIC’s industry resources. The automaker and the alliance plan to jointly promote the development of full-scenario connectivity standards linking people, vehicles and homes, with a focus on AI agent-level collaboration and technical standardisation between automotive-grade HarmonyOS systems and smart home devices.

According to the report, the cooperation would aim to enable cross-scenario connectivity across BYD’s vehicle lineup and related smart home and wearable devices. Proposed use cases include allowing drivers to activate home appliances such as air conditioning, lighting and water heating from their vehicles, while home control systems could manage vehicle functions such as preheating, navigation and battery monitoring.
The initiative also includes plans to integrate security functions that support two-way communication between home safety systems and vehicle status alerts, creating what the partners describe as a continuous protection network across automotive and residential environments.

BYD and GIIC also intend to explore pilot projects that showcase integrated “human-vehicle-home” experience spaces, allowing consumers to interact with connected vehicles and home appliances in a unified environment.
BYD’s application to join GIIC marks a further step toward establishing standardised cross-scenario smart connectivity within the HarmonyOS ecosystem, as Chinese technology and automotive companies push to deepen integration between mobility and smart home platforms.
