Tesla has introduced a lower-priced version of its best-selling Model Y crossover to the British market, aiming to widen its customer base as competition in the UK electric vehicle sector continues to intensify.
The Model Y Standard, which was first launched in the United States in October, is now available in the UK at a starting price of £41,990. It replaces the previous rear-wheel-drive Model Y as the entry-level version of the vehicle and is being offered on lease from £299 per month, according to details published by the company.

The rear-wheel-drive Model Y Standard delivers a driving range of 314 miles under the WLTP test cycle and an energy efficiency rating of 4.74 miles per kWh. Acceleration from 0 to 62 mph is quoted at 6.9 seconds, with a top speed limited to 110 mph. The revised performance figures allow the vehicle to fall into a lower insurance group compared with other Model Y variants.
Standard features on the UK-spec model include 19-inch alloy wheels, a 15.4-inch central touchscreen, a panoramic glass roof, seven-speaker audio system, heated seats, wireless phone charging, multiple USB ports and driver-assistance systems such as cruise control and Autopilot, supported by eight external cameras. Tesla said the vehicle can charge at rates of up to 175 kW, enabling up to 162 miles of range to be added in 15 minutes on compatible rapid chargers.
