Rivian will introduce native Digital Key support for its second-generation vehicles through a software update scheduled for release later this month, according to a company executive. The feature will allow vehicle access through Apple Wallet, Google Wallet and Samsung Wallet, expanding the automaker’s use of smartphone-based controls.
Wassym, Rivian’s chief software officer, said the functionality will arrive with the company’s 2025.46 over-the-air update. “Digital Key support is officially coming to Gen 2 vehicles with the 2025.46 OTA update later this month,” he said.

The system will use ultra-wideband (UWB) technology for precise vehicle access, include native smartwatch support and retain NFC-based unlocking as a backup if a phone’s battery is depleted.

The same software release will also introduce changes to how Rivian collects exterior camera data. The updated system will automatically block image capture at saved private locations such as homes, workplaces and user-defined favorites, while still allowing drivers to opt out of data collection entirely.
Rivian said the update is intended to balance the development of features such as low-speed parking assistance, active safety systems and future autonomous functions with user privacy controls.
