The Kia EV5 has been awarded a five-star safety rating by Euro NCAP after achieving strong results across all major assessment categories, the independent European vehicle safety body said. The fully electric sport-utility vehicle scored 83% for adult occupant protection, 85% for child occupant protection, 74% for vulnerable road users and 80% for safety assist technologies, reflecting solid all-round performance.
In adult occupant protection testing, Euro NCAP said the EV5’s passenger compartment remained stable in frontal impact scenarios, with good knee and femur protection recorded for both the driver and front passenger.

The model achieved maximum points in side barrier impact tests, while front and rear seat whiplash protection in rear-impact scenarios was rated as effective. The vehicle is also equipped with an automatic emergency eCall system and secondary collision mitigation to reduce the risk of subsequent impacts after an initial crash.
Child occupant protection delivered the EV5’s highest category score at 85%, with Euro NCAP confirming good protection across all critical body regions in both frontal and side impacts. The front passenger airbag can be deactivated for rear-facing child seats, and the safety body confirmed that all child restraint systems designed for the vehicle could be correctly installed.

In testing of vulnerable road user protection, Euro NCAP reported good or adequate protection for pedestrians and cyclists, with the autonomous emergency braking system demonstrating particularly strong performance in cyclist detection scenarios.
Safety assist technologies contributing to the 80% score include Lane Keeping Assist, Intelligent Speed Limit Assist, driver monitoring and seatbelt reminders for all seating positions. The EV5 is built on Kia’s Electric-Global Modular Platform, which underpins its structural safety performance. In Europe, the model is equipped with an 81.4 kWh battery and a 160 kW electric motor, offering a WLTP range of up to 530 km. Kia said European deliveries of the EV5 began in the fourth quarter of 2024.
