BMW has unveiled detailed updates for its 2026 i4 lineup, introducing silicon-carbide (SiC) inverters for enhanced efficiency and performance, along with a more powerful top variant renamed as the i4 M60. Production of the updated i4 range will begin in November 2025, with deliveries expected to follow shortly after.
The adoption of SiC technology in the inverters allows for improved energy transfer between the battery and motors, enhancing power electronics efficiency and thermal management. BMW said this upgrade, first seen on the i5, will now extend to the i4 eDrive40, contributing to higher range and sustained performance.

According to BMW, the i4 eDrive40 is now projected to exceed 300 miles of EPA-estimated range, offering around 333 miles on 18-inch wheels and 307 miles on 19-inch wheels—an increase of up to 15 miles compared to the 2025 model year.
The previous i4 M50 has been rebranded as the i4 M60 and receives both efficiency improvements and a notable power boost. The dual-motor setup now delivers 510 horsepower at startup and up to 593 horsepower in My Modes Sport, enabling a 0–60 mph acceleration time of 3.6 seconds. Estimated range has also improved to 278 miles on 19-inch wheels and 232 miles on 20-inch wheels.

Production for the 2026 BMW i4 series is scheduled to commence in November 2025, marking another step in BMW’s ongoing effort to enhance efficiency and performance across its electric vehicle range.
