Volkswagen UK has launched a new initiative called the ‘ID Promise’, allowing retail customers to return their new electric vehicle within 80 to 100 days of delivery if they change their minds. The offer, which began on November 3, will run until March 31, 2026.
The automaker said the scheme is designed to provide “complete peace of mind for anyone uncertain about switching to electric.” The offer applies to retail buyers of the ID.3, ID.4, ID.5, ID.7, and ID.7 Tourer, whether purchased outright or through a personal contract plan (PCP).

Customers must notify their retailer within the 80–100-day window, after which a refund will be arranged, minus a 3% fixed usage charge and any repair or refurbishment costs. The initiative excludes contract hire, fleet, ex-demonstration, and motability purchases.
Volkswagen said the program aims to reassure drivers hesitant about going fully electric. Citing an Autotrader report, the company noted that four in five EV owners are likely to buy another electric vehicle for their next car.

“Official figures show more than 1.3 million UK motorists have already converted to electric,” said Rod McLeod, Volkswagen UK’s director. “But there are many more people who want to go electric but feel unsure. This straightforward initiative gives them the perfect opportunity to ‘drive and decide’ with no strings attached.”
