Autonomous driving technology company Nuro said on Thursday that Co-Founder Dave Ferguson has been appointed Co-Chief Executive Officer, joining fellow Co-Founder Jiajun Zhu in leading the company’s next stage of global growth. Ferguson previously served as Nuro’s president.
“As Nuro enters its next phase of growth, this is the right moment to evolve our leadership structure,” said Zhu. “This change reflects how we’ve been leading together for years, and I’m extremely excited to continue driving Nuro forward with Dave.”

The pair said in a joint statement that their partnership over the past 14 years had fostered “a strong trust in each other” and created “a unique leadership model” designed to balance responsibilities and leverage their respective strengths. The new structure, they added, would help position Nuro to scale its AI-first autonomous technology and expand commercial partnerships globally.
Under the new arrangement, Zhu will oversee product and technology development, while Ferguson will focus on capital strategy and commercial partnerships. The two will continue to advance the company’s autonomous driving platform, the Nuro Driver™, which is licensed to automakers and mobility providers to speed up autonomous vehicle deployment.

Nuro has been expanding its industry collaborations as it strengthens its market presence. In July, the company announced a partnership with Lucid and Uber to develop a premium robotaxi service. The initiative aims to deploy more than 20,000 Lucid vehicles equipped with the Nuro Driver system across multiple global markets, beginning with a major U.S. city next year.
With more than nine years of development and five years of real-world testing across several U.S. states, Nuro remains one of the few companies to have operated autonomous vehicles at city scale without a safety driver, marking a milestone in the commercialization of self-driving technology.
