BYD’s premium sub-brand Yangwang has increased the price of its U9 electric supercar, diverging from the pricing adjustments seen across other divisions of the Chinese automaker.
The starting price of the U9 has been raised to RMB 1.8 million ($252,630), up RMB 120,000, or about 7.14%, from the previous RMB 1.68 million, according to an announcement by the company on Wednesday. Customers in China who purchase the vehicle between October 1 and December 31 will receive benefits including a six-year or 150,000-kilometer vehicle warranty and eight years of free maintenance, Yangwang said.

Launched in February 2024, the two-seat U9 is one of the most powerful models ever produced by a Chinese automaker, featuring four electric motors with a combined peak output of 960 kW (1,287 horsepower). The vehicle can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.36 seconds, and in recent tests has achieved several record-breaking speeds. In August, the U9 reached 375.12 km/h, followed by a test run at 391.94 km/h in October. In late August, a U9 prototype achieved a global EV top speed record of 472.41 km/h.
In August, BYD’s filing with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) revealed that Yangwang is preparing to launch a new version of the U9 electric supercar with significantly enhanced performance. The updated model, listed in the MIIT’s latest catalog of vehicles pending approval for sale, is expected to feature four motors delivering a combined 555 kW of peak output, more than double the previous model’s 240 kW setup.
