BYD has launched two new vehicles in Cambodia as part of its efforts to strengthen its presence in Southeast Asia. The Chinese automaker introduced the BYD Seal 5 Super Hybrid and the BYD M9 Super Hybrid at an event held in Phnom Penh on October 12.
The M9 is BYD’s Xia MPV, while the Seal 5 corresponds to the Seal 05 DM-i in China and the Chaser 05 in other markets such as Thailand. BYD did not clarify the specific Chinese versions linked to the Cambodian launch.

Since entering the Cambodian market, BYD has expanded rapidly, operating seven sales showrooms and one after-sales service center in Phnom Penh. The company plans to increase its presence to 13 showrooms and six service centers by the end of 2025. As of September 30, BYD had delivered 2,990 vehicles in Cambodia this year, representing a 497 percent increase compared to the same period in 2024.
BYD said that construction of its passenger vehicle assembly plant in Sihanoukville is nearing completion, with production expected to begin soon. The facility, located in the Sihanoukville Special Economic Zone, spans 12 hectares and represents a total investment of $32 million. It will operate as a Completely Knocked Down (CKD) assembly plant, enabling local assembly of BYD vehicles.
The company aims to produce its main models for the Cambodian market locally once the plant becomes operational. According to earlier reports by The Phnom Penh Post, the first batch of Cambodia-assembled BYD EVs is expected to roll off the production line in early November.
