Dacia is preparing another significant update for the Spring, Europe’s cheapest electric vehicle, just two years after its 2024 facelift. The 2026 version of the compact EV will deliver stronger performance, faster charging, and improved driving stability, as the Romanian brand continues refining its entry-level model amid rising competition in the budget electric car segment.
The latest update brings two more powerful motors. The base version, previously rated at 45 horsepower, now produces 70 hp, while the higher trim jumps from 65 hp to 100 hp. The performance improvement is substantial: the base Spring now accelerates from 80 to 120 km/h in 10.3 seconds, down from 26.2 seconds.

The top-spec version cuts the same interval to 6.9 seconds from 14 seconds. Dacia says the upgraded powertrains deliver up to 20% more power and torque in mid-range driving, improving acceleration and usability on highways.
The enhanced motors are paired with a new 24.3-kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery — Renault’s first to use this chemistry — offering greater efficiency and durability. Charging speeds have also improved, with the DC fast-charging rate rising from 30 kW to 40 kW, enabling a 20% to 80% recharge in about 29 minutes.

Beyond the powertrain, the Spring receives a host of mechanical upgrades, including an anti-roll bar for better cornering stability, retuned suspension components, and improved braking. Aerodynamic tweaks further reduce drag from 0.745 to 0.660 on models equipped with 14-inch wheels.
The China-built Spring will eventually be succeeded by a new entry-level electric vehicle based on the upcoming Renault Twingo platform, expected to launch in 2026. Priced around €18,000, the new A-segment model will feature a boxy, upright design previewed in a recent concept sketch.
