Tesla has confirmed that its newly launched Model Y Performance will support Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality, expanding a feature previously limited to the Cybertruck.
The company said on X that V2L enables owners to power external devices directly from the car’s battery using the Tesla Powershare Outlet Adapter, priced at $80 in the United States and C$110 in Canada. The system provides 120V at 20A with a maximum output of 2.4 kilowatts, enough to run laptops, appliances, power tools, or camping gear.

Tesla clarified that while the Model Y Performance supports V2L, it does not include Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) functionality, which remains exclusive to the Cybertruck. The pickup offers Tesla’s more advanced Powershare system, capable of powering larger loads or serving as home backup during outages.

The addition of V2L puts Tesla in line with rivals such as Hyundai, Kia, and Ford, which already offer bidirectional charging on models like the Ioniq 5, EV6, and F-150 Lightning. For Tesla, the move marks a step toward broader adoption of portable power solutions across its lineup.
The adapter works by connecting a Gen 3 Mobile Connector to the vehicle’s charge port, enabling standard plug-in access. Tesla has not confirmed whether V2L will expand to other variants of the Model Y or its wider vehicle lineup.
