Xpeng appears to be preparing a second model under its Mona lineup, following the August launch of the M03 electric sedan, which has quickly become the company’s best-selling vehicle.
Images circulating on Chinese social media this week suggest the Mona lineup’s first SUV is in development. The vehicle, resembling the M03 at the front, appears to be a compact SUV measuring between 4.6 and 4.7 meters in length, according to automotive bloggers. They noted the model will feature frameless doors and partially concealed door handles.

The SUV is expected to follow the M03’s competitive positioning, potentially extending Mona’s appeal to a broader customer base. The M03 sedan, introduced on Aug. 27, 2024, delivered 15,334 units in August, marking its 12th consecutive month of sales above 10,000 and accounting for 40.7% of Xpeng’s monthly deliveries. From January to August, the model delivered 117,443 units, or 43.2% of total company sales.
Strong demand has been driven by aggressive pricing. The Mona M03 starts at RMB 119,800 ($16,820), about half the price of Tesla’s Model 3, while offering a larger footprint. Mona originated from Xpeng’s 2023 acquisition of the electric vehicle business of ride-hailing company Didi Global, with the brand later folded into Xpeng’s lineup.
Xpeng also plans to expand the Mona series abroad. Earlier this week, chairman and CEO He Xiaopeng told CNBC: “In 2026 you can expect a variety of Mona products launched into the Chinese and European markets, as well as in rest of the world.”
