The 2025 Smart #5, a five-door large SUV, has achieved strong safety scores in the latest Euro NCAP crash tests, with standout results for child occupant protection and active safety systems.
According to Euro NCAP, the Smart #5 scored 88% for adult occupant protection, 93% for child occupants, 84% for vulnerable road users, and 92% for safety assist technologies.
The test results showed the passenger compartment remained stable during the frontal offset crash, offering good protection to the knees and femurs of both the driver and passenger. While chest protection for the driver and rear passenger was rated as marginal in some scenarios, the SUV delivered maximum points in side barrier testing. In the more severe side pole test, rib compression readings suggested weaker chest protection.
Euro NCAP highlighted the SUV’s comprehensive safety package, including a centre airbag to mitigate occupant-to-occupant injury, a direct child presence detection system, and autonomous emergency braking that responds effectively to pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists. “The autonomous emergency braking system performed well across tests of its response to pedestrians and cyclists, including ‘dooring’ scenarios,” the safety body noted in its report.
Child occupant safety performance was described as “good for all critical body areas” for both six- and ten-year-old dummies, with the Smart #5 scoring maximum points in this category. The model is equipped with ISOFIX/i-Size anchor points, an airbag cut-off switch, and a system to warn if a child is left in the car.
For vulnerable road users, the Smart #5 provided mostly good or adequate protection for the head, femur, and tibia, although weaker protection was recorded at the windscreen pillars and pelvis areas. Safety assist systems, such as lane keeping, speed assistance, and fatigue detection, contributed to its strong 92% score in that category.
The Smart #5’s rating applies across its full range of trims, including the Pro, Pro+, Pulse+, Premium+, and Performance editions.
