Chinese automaker Fang Cheng Bao, a sub-brand of BYD, on Tuesday officially launched its Tai 7 sport utility vehicle (SUV), marking the brand’s first hybrid SUV with a unibody design aimed at family buyers. The model competes with the GWM Tank 300 Hi4-T and Li Auto’s Li L6.
The Tai 7 starts at 179,800 yuan ($25,250), undercutting the Tank 300 Hi4-T and Li L6, both of which start at 249,800 yuan. The SUV is offered in four variants, ranging up to 219,800 yuan. The vehicle measures 4,999 mm in length, 1,995 mm in width, 1,865 mm in height, and has a 2,920 mm wheelbase.

The lower-priced models feature a single-motor front-wheel-drive system paired with a 1.5T engine delivering 115 kW (154 hp) and 225 Nm torque, alongside a 200 kW electric motor producing 315 Nm, allowing acceleration from 0-100 km/h in 7.5 to 7.9 seconds. Higher-end dual-motor all-wheel-drive variants accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 4.5 seconds, with the front motor rated at 160 kW/260 Nm and the rear motor at 200 kW/360 Nm.
Battery capacity ranges from 26.6 kWh in the entry model, giving a CLTC electric range of 135 km, to 35.6 kWh for other variants, offering 170-200 km. All models include a 60-liter fuel tank, providing a combined hybrid-electric CLTC range exceeding 1,300 km.

The top-end variant is equipped with BYD’s God’s Eye B smart driving system featuring the DiPilot 300 solution and LiDAR sensor, while lower-end variants use the God’s Eye C system with the DiPilot 100 solution. The Tai 7 also debuts BYD’s in-house developed tablet for multi-screen collaboration inside the vehicle.
Fang Cheng Bao, launched in August 2023, currently offers the Bao 5 and Bao 8 hybrid off-road SUVs, along with the Tai 3 compact family SUV from the Tai series.
