Volkswagen has unveiled its ID. Cross concept, a small electric SUV that expands the automaker’s lineup of front-wheel-drive MEB-based EVs. While the name draws a connection to the T-Cross combustion crossover, the ID. Cross represents a distinct electric design and engineering approach.
The subcompact SUV rides on a 2,601 mm (102.4 inches) wheelbase, virtually identical to the ID. Polo, but its overall dimensions are larger, measuring 4,161 mm (163.8 inches) in length—108 mm longer—and 58 mm taller than the hatchback.

Volkswagen has designed the ID. Cross with practicality in mind, offering 490 liters (17.3 cu.ft) of rear luggage space and a 25-liter (0.9 cu-ft) front trunk, a feature not found in any other ID model.
Exterior styling is more assertive than the ID. Polo, featuring a “friendly” LED-lit front fascia, three illuminated rectangles on a black C-pillar—a nod to the ID. Buzz and the original VW Bus—and high-cut, gently flared arches. The 21-inch wheels are wrapped in Continental tires that mirror the alloy rim’s pattern onto the sidewall, an unusual but visually striking detail.

Inside, the concept echoes the ID2.all design that previewed the ID. Polo. A 13-inch tablet touchscreen dominates the center of the dashboard, paired with an 11-inch digital instrument cluster and a square-shaped two-spoke steering wheel.
Volkswagen has also added a bank of hard buttons and a small rotary controller for essential functions, addressing criticism of overly digital interfaces. The cabin offers a calm and relaxing environment with ambient lighting, fabric-covered surfaces, and Vanilla Chai beige coloring. Front and rear seats fold flat for fully horizontal relaxation, and the seat backrests use a material likened to a yoga mat for comfort.

On the powertrain front, Volkswagen has confirmed that the ID. Cross will deliver a 261-mile (420 km) WLTP electric range. A single front-mounted motor produces 208 hp (211 PS / 155 kW), slightly less than the ID.
Polo GTI’s 223 hp output. While the ID. Cross remains a concept, Volkswagen says the production SUV, expected next summer, will closely mirror the concept, including production-ready interior door handles.
