Nio said on Monday it will hold Nio Day 2025 in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, in late September, when the company will officially launch the third-generation ES8 sport utility vehicle.
The event, traditionally held at the end of the year, is being moved to the fall for the first time, with the host city chosen without the company’s usual community vote.
Hangzhou, home to automakers Geely Auto and Leapmotor as well as technology giant Alibaba, will also serve as the backdrop for potential new product announcements, including a possible special edition of the Firefly EV, according to local media reports.
The third-generation ES8, unveiled on August 21, is currently in pre-sales with a starting price of RMB 416,800 ($58,220) for the 100-kWh battery version, about 25% lower than its predecessor.
Under Nio’s battery rental program, the pre-sales starting price is RMB 308,800, also below the comparable earlier model. The company noted that official launch prices in China are often set lower than pre-sale levels.
The new ES8 follows the April debut of the Firefly EV in China and its subsequent delivery rollout in Norway and the Netherlands earlier this month. Nio has said that moving Nio Day to the fall is intended to align with peak fourth-quarter sales momentum.
Investor sentiment has turned positive on the back of recent model launches, with the company’s Hong Kong-listed shares rising for a seventh consecutive session.
