Guident Corp., a Boca Raton-based autonomous vehicle teleoperation company, has partnered with the City of Boca Raton to introduce an autonomous shuttle service using MiCa vehicles, aiming to improve urban mobility and sustainability.
Under the agreement, the service will operate over a 2.6-mile loop from Mizner Park to Royal Palm Place. The first phase will feature a 0.6-mile loop within Mizner Park for a one-year term, with the option to extend. The project also involves Circuit, the city’s current shuttle operator, and Estonia-based Auve Tech, which manufactures the MiCa shuttles.
“Boca Raton is committed to innovative and sustainable mobility solutions for our community,” Mayor Scott Singer said, noting the potential of the autonomous shuttle to reduce congestion and improve accessibility. Guident CEO Harald Braun described the initiative as a step toward “safer and more connected urban futures,” leveraging the company’s proprietary remote monitoring and control software for autonomous vehicles.
The MiCa shuttle, an SAE Level 4 fully autonomous electric vehicle with capacity for eight passengers, has been deployed in complex urban environments in Europe, Asia, and the U.S. Circuit will manage daily operations of the new system, building on its existing electric shuttle service, BocaCONNECT. The company said the initiative supports eco-friendly rides, addresses the first/last-mile gap, and boosts local employment.
Boca Raton, home to 40 publicly traded corporate headquarters, major universities, and cultural attractions, sees the shuttle program as aligning with its broader vision of blending technology with community development. Future expansions and performance evaluations are planned as part of the rollout.
