China’s BYD Co Ltd sub-brand Fang Cheng Bao has commenced production of the first mass-produced unit of its Tai 7 hybrid sport utility vehicle (SUV), with the official launch planned for the fourth quarter, the company said.
Fang Cheng Bao announced the milestone on its Weibo account without providing additional specifics. The Tai 7 is the second model in the Tai series, following the Tai 3, and marks the brand’s first hybrid SUV featuring a unibody design. The move reflects the brand’s strategy to diversify its lineup from primarily off-road vehicles to models suited for everyday urban use.
The Tai 7 measures 4,999 millimeters in length, 1,995 millimeters in width, and 1,865 millimeters in height, with a wheelbase of 2,920 millimeters, offering the largest interior space among Fang Cheng Bao’s current products. According to the brand, the model is designed with a stronger focus on urban driving requirements.
Equipped with BYD’s “God’s Eye” smart driving system, the Tai 7 will be available in variants both with and without LiDAR technology. The four-wheel drive long-range version includes a 35.6 kWh battery, delivering an electric range of up to 180 kilometers under China’s CLTC testing cycle. The two-wheel drive standard-range version offers a 26.6 kWh battery with a 135-kilometer range. When fully fueled and charged, the vehicle’s combined range exceeds 1,300 kilometers.
