The ZAPI GROUP, an Italian electrification solutions provider, has acquired a majority stake in Stercom Power Solutions, a German developer of onboard chargers and energy systems for electric mobility, the companies said on Wednesday.
Stercom, founded in 2014 and headquartered in Weyarn, Bavaria, will continue to operate independently within the ZAPI GROUP. The company was previously backed by German energy storage specialist Tesvolt, which acquired a stake in 2021 to support Stercom’s early work in inductive charging. Since then, the company has shifted focus toward onboard chargers for industrial and commercial vehicles, as well as bidirectional charging systems.
“The acquisition of Stercom Power Solutions represents an important milestone in our growth strategy and demonstrates our ongoing commitment to expanding our capabilities to better serve our customers,” said Giannino Zanichelli, founder and owner of the ZAPI GROUP. “The addition of this company’s innovative product portfolio and talented team will help drive continued growth and market leadership.”
Stercom’s flagship product is the OBC V2X onboard charger, which supports both charging the vehicle’s battery and feeding energy back to the grid or into external systems. The company also develops battery management systems, high-performance energy storage solutions, and continues to list an inductive charging station as part of its portfolio.
ZAPI GROUP, headquartered in northern Italy, employs 1,700 people globally and reported annual revenues of around €600 million. The group provides a range of products including electric motors, chargers, and fleet management technologies for electric drive applications.
Tesvolt did not provide details on why it sought a new partner for its subsidiary. However, Daniel Hannemann, CEO of Tesvolt, welcomed the move. “By collaborating with its strong global investor Zapi, Stercom can continue to develop innovative technologies directly from its location south of Munich, thereby contributing to sustainability ‘Made in Germany’,” he said.
