General Motors (GM) reported its highest-ever monthly U.S. electric vehicle (EV) sales in July, with more than 19,000 units delivered, marking a 115% increase from the same period last year.
The Chevrolet Equinox EV accounted for over 8,500 of those sales, recording the strongest monthly performance for a non-Tesla EV in the country.
The Equinox EV, with a range of 315 miles, has become a key driver of GM’s recent momentum in the EV market. Its combination of affordability and long range is attracting new buyers, including those switching from other brands.
“The first thing for Equinox is the look and design. And once they get behind the wheel, they fall in love,” said Isidro Bomnin, vice president of operations at Bomnin Automotive, one of Chevrolet’s top EV-selling dealerships in South Florida.
GM’s EV sales growth continues to outpace industry trends, helping the company secure the second spot among U.S. EV sellers. Electric vehicles are estimated to have represented 8.5% of total U.S. vehicle sales in July, supported in part by buyers looking to take advantage of federal tax incentives ahead of their phase-out. GM plans to expand its EV lineup further, with third-quarter sales data expected on October 1.
